Now, thanks to Labelle clinic, excellent.nightmare.believer wrote:I don't know that we should take your advice; how do your teeth look?OrangeDragon wrote:ha! i'd recommend the opposite... that they come here. dentistry seems to be the one thing this country has right.nightmare.believer wrote:I'd start off with the cheapest possible place I could find that would take the xrays. You can actually see for yourself if you have cavities. The dark spots will be pretty evident. If you need a tooth cleaning, wait until you travel to Barangland or BKK if you must. If you really, really need a scaling (i.e. haven't had one in 2 or 3 years, you are a dirty, dirty man and deserve to have a trade school/technical school graduate scrap a surgical weapon over your nasty teeth. (Sorry...tough love).
I had half of a front tooth busted off and going black and with 2 visits in the same day an hour apart she saved it and the one next to it that was starting to go... for $25. Back home, even WITH insurance, that would have been 3-4 visits and minimum $20 copay per visit. Without dental insurance upward of $400.
Re: Dental Care
OD I am not a dentist but even I know that when a teeth become black that mean that it is dead (the coloring is due to the dead tissue inside and no more blood going in) . The next step is usually root canal treatment for removing the inside and a crown.OrangeDragon wrote:

Re: Dental Care
ryoon, "going black" and "become black" are two different things in English because of the grammar used. 'going" suggests a work in progress , not yet complete, while 'become" would imply a state already finished. Don't mean to be rude nor to give you an English lesson, but if OD said she saved the tooth , why would you argue with him?
Re: Dental Care
Going or become do not change anything to the matter here. I have some first hand experience on this issue ( quite an adept of martial art at one point) a tooth changing color = root canal treatment or minimum some time of observation with some kind of treatment and not much hope of avoiding the root canal treatment.horace wrote:ryoon, "going black" and "become black" are two different things in English because of the grammar used. Re: Dental Care
PS : unless OD started eating massive amount of licorice, the only way for a tooth of changing color is the mechanism I describe previously necrotic tissue becoming black and no more blood going in, this process is none reversible. Also quite sure of the fact on this one.
Re: Dental Care
How do you know that he didn't have root canal treatment?
Knew a guy here who had gangrene in his leg, it was going black, an american doctor chopped the whole leg off below the knee. The guy went back to Oz where he was dismayed to learn that his leg could have been saved because it wasn't gangrene or it hadn't gone black completely. My point is unless one is an expert or have knowledge acquired through experience, one should try to only give an opinion.

Because he told us that she treated the teeth without root canal treatment.

Ho but I have such knowledge as explained I saw the phenomenon several time. Teeth going black big buck to spend. After it is also possible that three dentist no knowing each other and working in different setting (one of them doing mainly emergency) lied to me but not really probable.

Re: Dental Care
The tooth wasn't entirely black only about half, and it was VERY close to the root. She even warned me of this but said she was going to try to save the root anyway.
She said that if the filling was too close to the root it would be very sensitive, and that I could come back and she'd then do the root canal at no additional charge.

So the price would still be 25$ ?OrangeDragon wrote:The tooth wasn't entirely black only about half, and it was VERY close to the root. She even warned me of this but said she was going to try to save the root anyway.
