Phnom Penh Airport Train Plan Being Studied by Royal Railways.

In view of the worsening traffic in PP, this could be a winner.
Royal Railways Considering Airport Train

by Ben Paviour | May 12, 2016 | អានជាភាសាខ្មែរ
Royal Railways is conducting a feasibility study on a rail line that would whisk passengers from the center of Phnom Penh to the airport in less than 15 minutes, the company’s CEO said on Wednesday.

Though the plan is still in the early stages of discussion, Royal Railways CEO John Guiry said he hoped to use an existing rail line for most of the route and, under the most optimistic scenario, have trains running in 18 months...
Mr. Guiry said “no evictions” would be necessary to complete the rail line. “I wouldn’t even do it if there was a risk of eviction,” he said.

The line would follow tracks already in use except for a final stretch along currently vacant land, he added.

It's a great idea and I hope they pursue it, although there will obviously be some forced evictions if land owners won't sell. The existing train tracks are less than 2km from the airport terminal, but there is no "vacant land" route from there as he suggested for a train to get to the actual airport. Their best bet may be to build a new train station at Street 105K and begin regular shuttle bus service for the last 2km. The taxi drivers will fiercely and violently oppose it, though.

A '' sky train '' would work better. Following the original train track, but above it . Pillars on each side of the track, and rail line on the cross piece that joins the two pillars. The advantages of this , a ''light rail '', system is it does not interfere with any other traffic. No dogs cows or Lexus to get in the way. Does not take any extra land, and the system can be all automated, run from a office with CCTV, and not even needing a driver .
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Why? They didn't seem to be bothered by the introduction of the bus service.

The taxi drivers don't make their living by driving people along those bus routes. Many make their money to and from the airport exclusively. Plus, buses sit in the same traffic as everyone else, so people have less incentive to use buses instead of taxis. Trains do not sit in traffic and therefore will entice a good share of the passengers going into the city away from buses and taxis.

Dedicated "bus" lanes with strict enforcement. Ban tuk-tuks and motos from the main road to/from the airport. More bus stops with coverers for the rainy season and route schedules/maps, frequent bus's and on schedule, dedicated turn lanes instead of lanes that turn into turn lanes near intersections, new bus's not some other countries hand-me-downs, good pay for bus drivers, uniforms for bus drivers, flyover for bus's to turn into the airport, bicycle racks on bus's, monthly discount passes for the bus.

Last but not least, Cowcatchers for the front of bus's like the old locomotives had, to clear scoff-law motos out of the bus lanes. :-)
