What a ripoff. With Cellcard we get text spam, recorded messages, AND live calls.

"You'll need Khmer national id card, or a passport to get either a Metfone or Cellcard sim.

Well, I met up with Nightmare Believer this evening and he had already gotten a SIM card.
I guess he had no trouble finding a place.

Re: SIM card for cell phone. Suggestions?
Metfone sucks! It *is* a bit cheaper though, but you get what you pay for. Terrible on calls/SMSs, decent coverage, but GOOD 3G. The rest have either weak coverage or much slower 3G speeds.
Beeline and Qb - too small to mention. Smaller networks, I know maybe 1-2 people casually that have those carriers. Weak.
Smart/Hello is ok, but NOT great. During peak hours, like 5-7PM, I can't call out or receive calls. Only texts.
Mobitel/Cellcard - a bit more expensive but far note reliable. All the old-timers used Mobitel back in the day, and they still have Mobitel.
It saves to call people "ON NETWORK" - you often get free SMSs to people on net with you. The exception may be Cellcard/Mobitel, I think they charge you no matter what, but they have good service.
That's why I have a Metfone for 3G on my iPhone and a dual-sim brick Nokia (~$35-$45?) for Cellcard and Smart.
It pays to have more than one network if you're doing business here ... If one goes down, the others are there .., no worries.
They are dirt cheap, too, like $2 to get started!

It was my experience 2 or so years ago. Cellcard was way strict they accept no ID other than Khmer national ID card. Maybe their policy became more lax after buying out Mfone.Otis wrote:"You'll need Khmer national id card, or a passport to get either a Metfone or Cellcard sim.

I'm guessing that their policies haven't changed, they're just as enforced as every other rule or regulation in this country.flying chicken wrote: Maybe their policy became more lax after buying out Mfone.

Re: SIM card for cell phone. Suggestions?
Maybe, but you dont need no id to buy Smart sim card, but you still do with Cellcard. From what I understand, Cellcard is very connected to the ruling government. For instance, Smart telecom used to be really cheap for outgoing calls (within network) but Cellcard enforced to the rule to higher the calling rates (fearing that they might lose customers).General Mackevili wrote:I'm guessing that their policies haven't changed, they're just as enforced as every other rule or regulation in this country.flying chicken wrote: Maybe their policy became more lax after buying out Mfone.

Again, I bought a CellCard SIM less than 2 months ago without anything at all except a couple dollars.flying chicken wrote:... but you still do with Cellcard. From what I understand, Cellcard is very connected to the ruling government.
So I think it's more a case of "you're supposed to have" rather than "you NEED to have" an ID/passport.

I dont know which particular phone shop you got it from, but I bet you a box of beer that it is still their requirement.

You should usually try betting with someone you disagree with.flying chicken wrote:I dont know which particular phone shop you got it from, but I bet you a box of beer that it is still their requirement.
