How Chinese Cambodian celebrate Chinese New Year

Post by Samouth »

Look like we talked a lot about Khmer New Year lately and many people like to talk about it. However Chinese New Year has just passed not so long ago. Out of curiosity, what do you guys know about Chinese New Year in Cambodia?

What do we know? That's easy. Chinese New Year is the holiday that isn't a holiday. It's also a time when non-Chinese people suddenly claim to have some Chinese ancestry.

ive celebrated chinese new year in a few different places, the first time was in a remote village in the Chiang Rai jungle...
which consisted of eating and drinking then dancing traditional dances around a center piece which had the head of a pig in it, all the music was played using traditional instruments (no big khmer speakers lol)

this year i celebrated it in my friends village in sihanoukville, wasnt much different to any other khmer piss up though tbh there was food and drink and music, none there had any chinese ancestry, they are more likely to have ties to vietnam if anywhere

This is how we celebrated Chinese NY with some friends and their family. It started with some incense and prayers to ancestors, then loads of stuff was burnt for good luck, there was a lot of Angkor drunk, then we ate most of the pig and masses of other food, then we drank more beer... :beer3:
