House keeper/cleaner

Post by Mrs Stroppy »

We're just about to move to a new apartment where cleaning isn't included so I'm looking to hire someone for about 3 hours a week. Duties would include cleaning, changing the beds, washing (no ironing) and occasional cooking. What should I be looking to pay? Any recommendations?

While not a fan of Cambodian Parent's Network, they are a good source for recommended house keepers. Check on there to help you find someone and maybe give you a sense of their rates. I was very successful in the past doing that.

What you should pay will depend on the size of your house, how much laundry, and what occasional cooking looks like. Negotiate with the particular cleaner, and keep in minding that paying a little more than average can go far here in terms of the reliability of the cleaner.

How would you want those 3 hours spread out over the week?

Once a week? Twice a week?

Twice a week, so maybe cooking a meal on those days, floors done twice a week, a bit of washing each time they come and other bits like changing the bed and wet areas once a week.

Two minuet noodles or boil an egg meals? Yes can be done. Don't know about changing those wet areas on the bed though.
