Scott Leiper, Husband of CNRP Politician Mu Sochua and Former Senior Program Adviser of UNDP Cambodia Dies of Cancer

New York City: Husband of Mu Sochua and Former Senior Programme Adviser of United Nations Development Programme Cambodia, Scott Leiper, Dies From Cancer in NYC, Age 61.

He was the Senior Program Adviser from April 1983 to June 2011.

Scott is from Berkeley, California and studied at Amherst College, according to his Facebook page.

He will be missed by many. Rest in Peace.

Some heartfelt words from his friends regarding his passing:

"My friend and former colleague, Scott Leiper, died in the US yesterday, following a 9-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Scott joined WFP in Thailand in 1982 as part of the WFP-managed UN Border Relief Operation, UNBRO, to assist displaced Cambodians. Recognizing Scott's qualities, I recruited him into WFP's Emergency Service. He served at HQ from 1986 - 1989. Scott transferred to Phnom Penh, Cambodia in 1989, where he eventually became Country Director. From 1995 to 2000, he was seconded to UNDP/UNOPS, and then in 2006 to UNDP. Scott took early retirement in 2011. I hadn't seen Scott since our days together in the Emergency Service, although, in recent years, we remained in touch via FaceBook, often commenting on each others photos. Our last exchange was just before Easter. Condolences to Scott's wife, Sochua Mu, and their daughters who are welcome on the WFP People FB page to see tributes from former colleagues."

"The last time I saw Scott was last fall at Jeff Janer and Maggie Sanftleben's house in Cape Neddick. A group of his oldest friends including Keith Leslie and Stephen Golub were sitting on Jeff's lawn, Scott in a chair covered up against the early-autumn chill. As the sun moved across the yard, everyone moved their chairs to remain in its warmth. I'll remember that afternoon, and think of Scott fondly when we listen to the music he left behind when he was visiting Jeff in 2014, the soft and sultry Astrid Gilberto. I trust you are at rest, Scott, and know you can feel the love you gave us all."
