Cambodian Hotels Encouraged To Go Green
Green command for Cambodian hotels
PHNOM PENH, 16 March 2016: Cambodia’ Ministry of Tourism encourages hotels to embrace green hotel standards to improve its hospitality industry green credentials.
Agence Kampuchea Presse quoted Tourism Ministry Thong Khon saying all 10 ASEAN nations are recommending hotels to adopt green practices.
“Green hotel does not mean a hotel with a lot of trees, but a hotel that is environmentally friendly and adopts energy conservation measures,” the minister said.
A total of 41 hotels across Cambodia – 24 in Siem Reap province; nine in Phnom Penh; four in Preah Sihanouk province; and one each in Koh Kong, Kampot, Battambang and Kratie provinces – have won the ASEAN Green Hotel Standard Awards, the report added.
The ASEAN Green Hotel Award was first hosted in Thailand in 2008. The awards are based on the ASEAN Green Hotel standard that was first drafted in 2007 introducing 11 criteria on which to judge a hotel’s green credentials.
The objective is to develop an ASEAN Green Hotel Standard with a certification process which will increase the environmentally friendly and energy conservation in the ASEAN accommodation industry, with a unified agreement across ASEAN member states.
The Green Hotel Standard is just one of six standards established by ASEAN. The others are: food & beverage services; public restroom; homestay; ecotourism; and tourism heritage.

Re: Cambodian Hotels Encouraged To Go Green
I think my hotel misunderstood the intention; though the mould on the ceiling is indeed green...
