move from Pattaya to Sihanoukville ?
Re: move from Pattaya to Sihanoukville ?
Richard because Kep Is quite small I guess the choices of accommodation on a long-term basis would be quite restricted. Is that correct?phuketrichard wrote:obelisks wrote:phuketrichard wrote:as a cyclist, go check out Kep ,

maybe you are right and I will definitely go and check that place out soon. Should have done years ago.
P..S do you ever have the same feelings about Phuket as I do about pattaya and what keeps you living in Thailand?
NOPE; I love it here, got good friends, can fly wherever i wish, buy/ eat whatever and i am addicted to the sea and have my little route i use for my bicycle workouts.
Dont go to bars or out at night and Kamala is like a village
i moved to phuket in 85, went to the states in 97/98
back to Phuket, up to PP in 2008/09 and back to Phuket,
My khmer gf and i went to Cambodia with the car in 2012 with the intention to move back
spent 6 weeks looking everywhere ( Batt, Skv, SR, PP, Kampot, Kep) no where was as good as we have it here
We drove up to Kep in Nov and the gf has family there and we have some land, I liked it , but very quiet yet only 2 1/2 hours to PP for shopping
30 minutes to Kampot.
If, for whatever reason ( GF thai visa) we had to leave i'd move there
where do people stay on a long-term basis there?
I wouldn't be interested in buying land to construct a house or anything as I would assume you would be doing on your land.
I wouldn't imagine there would be any apartment buildings in Kep?

Tons of coastline in Thailand besides Pattaya and Phuket. Check out across the bay to Hua Hin. Personally, I like the lifestyle in the south of Thailand. Not the bomb-o-rama deepest south but around Songkhla, maybe. Even just 30 minutes drive outside of Pattaya things get much quieter and cheaper but still has many of the ammenitites that a westerner requires.obelisks wrote:Only because I do want an ocean side location so I'm not interested in anywhere inland.Rutiger wrote:There are other options than Pattaya or SHV. Why on earth you you narrow it down just to those two places?
but what other options do you think I should consider?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Pattaya gets boring pretty fast too developed and hot .
Snooky has much more interesting nature in the surrounding outskirts.
U got all the islands and for cycling you can goto otred for the day or up to victory hill and explore the fishing villages for a few shots of tree bark whisky

there are accommodations in Kep, hire a tuk tuk driver for a day and he will show u,
just dont show up Mid Dec-Mid march.
Don't give up on Thailand cause of bad vibes in Pattaya, Especially if the move is not visa related. There some amazing beach cites /islands to live here, much better selection than u will find in Cambodia.
My take, for those that live here an think Cambodia, for what ever reason. might be better.
You get used to having whatever we want, At times living here can be like living in the West, but ur not. Thats what i like
You don't realize you miss it till its gone

I first went to Pattaya in 1980 and spent at least a couple months each year in Thailand since then. I found SKV on my way to retire on Ko Samui. I really don't like Thailand anymore, but parts of Ko Samui are still ok. I find Cambodia (Snookyville) to be Thailand 35 years ago, just add ATMs, internet and roads full of cheap motorbikes. I only go to Pattaya to shop and do medical care. I really dislike Bangkok, but I'm also not in love with Phnom Penh. If Kampot had a beach, I'd live there as its quiet and very clean. Someday soon I hope the governor of Snooky wakes up to the fact that trash all over the place does not attract tourists and $$$$.

That's the opposite of PP. The gov of PP thinks the more rubbish on the streets means more tourists and more money.
Hello Cintri, Anyone working today ?
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Traffic has got a lot worse in SHV over the last 2 years , and in the last 6 months a fleet of Hyundia mini buses treat the roads around town as if they were motorways.....
But the roads are getting made wider in a few places now keeping us pedaling people further away from the worst of the traffic
Kampot is ok, it still has crime but the expats dont like to talk about that
Kep ...there is virtually nothing in Kep, cycling would be good plenty empty roads with a few hills
