3-Year-Old Girl Killed By Herd of Cows in Pursat

A 3-year-old girl was trampled to death by a herd of cows while she was asleep in a hammock in Pursat town on Wednesday according to local police.

Pursat Deputy Police Chief Chhorn Seng said the cows had been trying to mate with each other, which caused the herd of seven cows to run underneath the girl’s house in Ror Leap commune. The girl was asleep there and her mother, 26-year-old Run Khunthear, was unable to reach her in time.

“The cows were trying to mount to each other so they were running under the victim’s house. One of the cows knocked the baby out of the hammock and another one crushed it. The mother was there by she was not able to get to her child in time,” Mr. Seng said.

The girl’s father, a bus driver named Hem Sok, was away when the tragedy occurred.

He said he had never seen an accident like it, adding that police will contact the owner of the herd and request compensation for the girl’s family.

“Since the beginning of my work, I have never seen any case like that. This is the first case like this in the city. The local police will contact the owner of cows, who may be able to help pay for the funeral,” he said.
