Chinese tourists to Cambodia up 24% in 2015

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Nothing new there Nemo,

Your statement is a true reflection of what has been going on for quite some time in Australia. Fortunately enough I am no reflection on your statement that "us Aussies never venture far from the coast", myself having lived in some very remote places all over Australia whilst working in certain industries.

The 'new' concept of foreign investment includes selling off Australian assets with the only conditional requirement held by the Australian government is to retain 10% of the existing workforce for that particular business venture. Australian government clueless? - totally agree. Is Australia and the US both heading in a similar position? I don't know?

Half the vineyards in the country are already owned by overseas investors, as well as grazing properties, oh, don't forget the golf courses.

Further, Japanese companies, such as Daikyo, owned 80% of the commercial/tourism real estate in/around Cairns at one point. (not sure about that figure now - I doubt it would have decreased significantly) I believe that there is apparently an investigation underway in terms of foreign ownership of real property in Australia, the government either being 'clueless', to slow to 'wake up', or both!

Although overseas investment can be invaluable for the growth (infrastructure/employment & otherwise) of a country, I think there needs to be a decisive line drawn in the sand as to how much is enough for any country really, whether it be Australia or Cambodia. One would hope that a wise line is drawn in the sand for Cambodia before it gets out of hand.

Will the Cambodian government pull the reigns on that kind of foreign investment? Or should the line be drawn now? We probably all have an opinion on that point.

Oddly enough, I myself have spent time just outside of Alice Springs on service.
The Australians one meets in the bush are a far different breed to the city folk.
They know which way is up.
Useful chaps to have on one's side when things go pear shaped, as was found 50 years ago in this very region.
In many other theatres as well.
