More pre-election crap

Like most politicians he can wax lyrical about a subject while holding completely opposing views on it.
What I fear is that the new helicopters will be used against the local villager protection groups who have set themselves up, so that they can prevent other protection groups from illegal logging. Prey Lang for example.
The army will help? Big lol there. Ever since the army have been 'helping' the situation has gone from worse to worse. The army having the men and equipment to move a lot more trees than private entrepreneurs.

I have ordered him to shoot without hesitation at whoever is insolent enough to commit such a crime.

The Prime Minister took steps earlier this year to end deforestation, creating the National Anti-Deforestation Committee. The committee comprises 10 members – a president, deputy president and eight permanent members coming from Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Environment and from the local government of provinces along Cambodian-Vietnamese border.

PM Wants Military to ‘Open Eyes’ on Deforestation Crimes
Khmer Times / May Titthara Friday, 26 February 2016 63 views
Prime Minister HE proposed an action-movie solution to the problem of mass deforestation – blowing up the perpetrators with rocket-propelled grenades.
“I gave two helicopters to General Sokha,” he said during a speech at the opening of the Ministry of Environment’s new building. “It seems like he hasn’t shot anything yet. I have ordered him to shoot without hesitation at whoever is insolent enough to commit such a crime.”
The prime minister said illegal logging or land clearance must be punished swiftly, and blamed regulators for turning a blind eye to the crime. “Transporting timber requires a truck that is big enough to see with our naked eyes, so where have your eyes gone?” he demanded of the Ministry of Environment officials. “The military’s eyes, police’s eyes, gendarmerie’s eyes, forest inspector’s eyes and environmental official’s are all gone too...now, it’s time for you to act.”
He raised the example of Malaysia, where much of the forest has been replaced with coconut oil and rubber plantations, adding that many countries in Southeast Asia had lost their forests to rampant development.
“I cannot tolerate deforestation,” he said. “We must talk about reform, but what is important is to do it, that’s all.” turns to the camera which slowly moves in to reveal a single, innocent tear in his eye.

No he didn't really say that.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Yeah! Now we're talkin'! Blasting illegal loggers with RPGs fired from new helicopters? Does it get any better than that. I volunteer for that job unreservedly. I won't even take a lunch break.
Although if that means flying in a helicopter with all maintaince performed by local technicians, I doubt if they'll remain flight-worthy very long.

I added the last bit in italic for rhetorical effect. After all, nobody believes his bullshit so I thought he needed some help.

And think of all those lovely old trees you can blow up. Only in Cambodia would the prime minister plan to save a forest by blowing it up.Rutiger wrote:Yeah! Now we're talkin'! Here is a guy that would be suitable for the job of stopping illegal logging. Make him second in command to the Prime Minister on stopping deforestation .
Mother Nature founder wants his day in court
Alessandro Marazzi Sassoon, The Phnom Penh Post
Thu, 25 February 2016
Deported Mother Nature co-founder Alejandro Gonzalez-Davidson, in a video posted on the group’s Facebook page yesterday, made a direct appeal to Prime Minister HE to expedite his visa application so he can face charges over anti-sand-dredging activities before the Koh Kong Provincial Court.
Claiming that being sentenced in absentia would be “a gross violation” of his rights – citing articles of the Cambodian constitution, Code of Criminal Procedures and the International Covenant on Civil and Political rights – Gonzalez-Davidson says he is “not escaping from justice”.
“Not being allowed to defend myself in court against these totally trumped charges only to be found guilty would be beyond-Kafkaesque,” he wrote in an email to the Post yesterday.

I bet the US has some Agent Orange leftover. They can drop that from helicopters to defoliate the trees and then be able to see the illegal loggers better and then shoot the bejezus out of them with rocket launchers.

Alex would indeed be the perfect guy if he was like the prime minister and told utter lies to the people all the time. Unfortunately for HE, Alex doesn't lie, cheat and steal from the poor but tries to help them. (Why do you think they escorted him out of the country in the first place). Perhaps they should make Alex prime minister, the only way this place is going to get sorted out is if foreigners take over.
Who were the better rulers: the French and the Vietnamese, or Lon Nol and the Khmer Rouge?
Cambodia, the only country that foreigners treated the locals better than their own rulers did.
At least in Britain we got/get treated the same.

My brother-in-law is a camp follower in Preah Vihear and logging is what funds the military there. They are expected to make up wages with it.

Nine Vietnamese nationals busted with chainsaws in Mondulkiri
Fri, 26 February 2016
Phak Seangly
Foresty officials detained nine Vietnamese nationals on Wednesday, after they allegedly crossed the border to illegally log a protected forest in Mondulkiri.
The men were caught by police and Forestry Administration officials and were carrying two chainsaws in a protected forest in Pech Chreada district, just a few kilometres from the border, according to Moul Phath, a project manager for WWF Cambodia.
“The ranger team captured them in one place, and ordered them not to escape,” he said.
The chainsaws and five motorbikes were sent to a nearby border station, Phath said.
Forestry official Long Bung said the men were aged between 30 and 40 years old. The suspects were still being questioned by forestry officials at the provincial headquarters, he said, adding that they will be sent to court today.
In Heng, director of the immigration office at the Mondulkiri provincial police station, said that along with the forestry crime charges, the men would likely be charged with crossing the border illegally as well.
In a separate case yesterday, Tbong Khmum provincial police seized 200 logs of rosewood from a truck and detained the driver, who they say was on his way to Vietnam.
Provincial police chief Mao Pov said the rosewood was hidden under recyclables but was discovered by officials at Duong checkpoint on the Vietnamese border.
The load weighed more than 1,000 kilograms, he said.
“The driver was arrested and now we are taking legal action. He was attempting to transport it to Vietnam,” Pov said.
