A train transporting oil from Phnom Penh to Preah Sihanouk province hit a truck yesterday morning after the truck’s engine stalled out on a railway crossing, according to local police.

Seng Chamreun, deputy police chief in Prey Nob district, said the accident occurred at a railway crossing in Veal Meas village, Veal Rinh commune and that the truck was completely destroyed whilst the train only sustained minor damage.

“When the truck tried to cross the railway, it turned off, and the truck cut off immediately. The driver ran out of the truck and the train fully hit the truck. The truck was almost broken but only the train’s fuel tank was damaged,” he said.

Mr. Chamreun said that no one was injured in the accident, however police are searching for the truck driver, who fled the scene after the crash.

“The truck’s driver ran away immediately after the accident. The police are searching for him as he lives in this commune,” Mr. Chamreun added.

There have been relatively few deaths since the reopening of the train line from Phnom Penh to Preah Sihanouk, with most being caused by people falling asleep on the railroad overnight.

Surprised train couldn't stop in time given the speed they typically crawl at.

It crawls but it's long too. if it brakes immediately it might run out of its way. The truck driver should have known it is railway and I wonder if the train horn or not?

Isn't there like only ONE working train in the whole country? You can't avoid getting hit by the only train?

Yeah you probably don't want to sleep on the train tracks either. Unless you are a very light sleeper.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The fastest thing moving in that drama was the truck driver running away!
