Walking Street Sweep Nets 30 Foreigners Without Proper Papers in Pattaya

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

So if it's not the LAW to carry your passport, as you state, what is the reason for them to detain you?

one thing;

ur saying its the law to carry ur passport, (OR)
BUT why when u don't have it,
they don't arrest you or write you a ticket or fine you or make you go to court
all they do is detain you till you produce it so they can verify who you are and your on a valid visa. Seems perfectly reasonable to me, what with so many they arrest for overstays

If ur caught driving with out a drivers license but tell them its at home
do they give you a ticket or allow someone to bring it to show them an all is well

Just saying

I'm not saying it's the law, the law says it's the law. Whether or not individual police enforce that law or any law all the time or punish violators to the full extent of the law is irrelevant to that fact. Growing up when marijuana in the US was 100% illegal, some cops could catch you with small amounts and make you dump it down the sewer grate and let you off with a stern warning and other cops would haul you in and charge you with criminal possession for even lesser amounts. The same for teens getting caught graffiti-ing buildings. That doesn't mean those infractions weren't against the law.
