Introduce Yourself
Re: Introduce Yourself
Hi all,
Am originally from Malaysia but will be in Phnom Penh for work and leisure this week from 13-17 Jan.
Would love to meet up with locals/expats/fellow travelers for coffee, drinks, dinner and to explore the city as it's my first time in Cambodia. Anyone up for this?
Cheers!

Re: Introduce Yourself
i just found this resource, and all i can say is thank you!! so many questions answered re: my desire to move to cambodia.
i just returned from a trip there following a friend who is running for parliament and was fortunate enough to have lunch with this guy that everyone called the king, but he is not the guy on all the billboards.
when i asked around, i was told--"you met the king!" but when i questioned them with "then does cambodia have two kings?" i got the same response 3 different times.... "i not know how to say"
i looked him up online, and found him referred to as Prince Sisowath Thomico, but i'm still left wondering why everyone calls him king. any info would be most appreciated.

If I had to guess, it sounds like he was just really close to the king, so maybe that's just his nickname.
Sihanouk had had been in China since January to receive medical treatment for a variety of illnesses he had suffered in recent years, including colon cancer, diabetes and hypertension. Prince Sisowath Thomico, a royal family member who also was Sihanouk’s assistant and nephew, said the former king suffered a heart attack at a Beijing hospital and died before dawn Monday.

He doesn't seem to be getting along with the Prime Minister very well:
Cambodia’s official Anti-Corruption Unit has demanded that the former spokesman for late King Norodom Sihanouk declare his assets or face legal action in a move he says is retribution for his decision to join the country’s opposition party ahead of upcoming national elections.
The investigative Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU), which critics have accused of being linked to the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), sent the orders on Monday to Prince Sisowath Thomico, King Sihanouk’s nephew and longtime private secretary.
Prince Thomico has drawn criticism from Prime Minister HE since joining the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) last month. The CNRP is preparing to challenge HE’s ruling CPP in July 28 national elections.
Before joining the CNRP, Prince Thomico served as a main adviser to his uncle, the beloved former King Sihanouk, who died at the age of 89 in October after suffering a heart attack at a hospital in Beijing.

He sounds like the former king's right-hand man.

Welcome aboard Lily, You being a female [ ? ] especially welcome as we need more female members to give their views in discussions here. It's good that you also listed your travel company's address so GM knows where to send the bill for all the free advertising you are going to get.

Re: Introduce Yourself
Hi Lily and other members. I have made a post in the buy and sell section of this site. I have been downsizing from a house to a flat and these items I am offering are the last thing I need to shift.
So once again hi and hope we are all lucky this year and get what we need.

Leo - does anyone have a Talking Parrot in Phnom Phen
Hello my name is Leo and I am living in Phnom Phen for several months. While here, I am teaching English at a French school here in Phnom Phen to 5 and 6 year olds. The school is very close to the U.S Embassy near Wat Phnom.
I am currently teaching different English words to the children at the school including names of birds. I would like to know if anyone owns a talking parrot in Phnom Phen or vicinity who can bring in the bird on a Wednesday mid afternoon sometime in next few words so that the kids can interact with the talking parrot for 20 - 30 minutes. I cannot pay for this service as i am a volunteer teacher. Any assistance in this request is much appreciated.
