Re: Cambodian Railway Makes Test Run for Passenger Service
I've never taken a train in the Kingdom. I'll call my ladies to take it when it starts. But I wonder is it new but old?

Cannot find my other photos of engines etc taken in the workshops about 2003. There were several old steam engines but I think they were probably swapped for some Chinese diesels cause of the price of steel at the time.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

8 hours in a train, compared to the excruciating 5 hours I spent coming back from PP to Shitsville on the bus on Tuesday? No fukn comparison. I would happily spend 20 hours on a train, rather than 5 hours on a bus, provided of course they have a fully stocked club bar!

I rode the train from DC to New Orleans. It was fucking slow through Georgia, took 24 hours. The only saving grace was the drinks carriage at the end. You could smoke there and get pissed up. If it's only 20000r max I think it's a winner.Hotdigr wrote:8 hours in a train, compared to the excruciating 5 hours I spent coming back from PP to Shitsville on the bus on Tuesday? Re: Cambodian Railway Makes Test Run for Passenger Service
Having a passenger train would be good, even if it is slow.I was told that most Cambodian rolling stock and the diesel rail cars came from NZ. The gauge is the same I was told. Most of the rails are new but not all. Some of the old rails were just reversed because most of the wear is on the inside of the rail.
Most of the bridges and culverts are on the stretch around the bay from kampot to that little town before the hills behind sihanoukville. The concrete still has marks from bullets and at least one of the bridges is propped up by a piece of concrete stuck in the water. That must be one reason that the train is so slow.
There are still several old steam engines in the sheds in Phnom Penh and the royal railcar still runs, it was sihanouks and has a bedroom and a carriage for concubines. They could run that one for passengers and charge top dollar for rich tourists. It must use a lot of diesel though.
A good government would restore the stations at kampot and sihanoukville and there is another one about halfway from kampot to veal rinh. But if you go to the royal railways site they are proposing new rail lines all over the place.

B-K-L, great photos. Are these photos recent? Or decades old?

Re: Cambodian Railway Makes Test Run for Passenger Service
I rarely see it clearly like in the pictures because most time I reached there, I saw many people were playing cards and drinking. So I didn't stop to see anything.
