Re: Iron Bridge from Sen Monorom City To Bosra Waterfall Collapsed After An Overloaded Truck Ran On
I remember when HE ordered that no more overloaded trucks be on Cambodia's roads. Weigh bridges were set up, a lot of money was extorted but of course the trucks remained just as overloaded as before...

Note: Those who are visiting Mondolkiri for Christmas, you might consider changing your plan.

Bridge buckles under ‘50 tonne’ brick truck
A steel bridge in Mondulkiri province’s Pech Chreada district snapped in half on Monday under the weight of a truck police said was carrying more than twice the weight the structure was rated for.
According to Chreum Bren, Pech Chreada’s deputy police chief, the Hyundai truck was carrying a load of bricks and cement from Sen Monorom town to a construction material depot in Pech Chreada when the bridge, located in Sre Ampoum commune, collapsed underneath it.
“In fact, [the bridge] does not allow a load of more than 20 or 25 tonnes, but the truck was loaded with about 50 tonnes,” Bren said, adding that the truck was finally removed yesterday evening.
“They did not obey the regulation, so the problem occurred,” he continued, saying the vehicle was owned by a local small business that had come forward to accept responsibility for the cost of repairs, which remained unknown yesterday.

Man has five days left to pay for bridge
The owner of a truck overloaded with bricks and cement that caused a bridge in Mondulkiri to snap in half last week has five days to come up with more than $40,000 to cover repairs before authorities send the case to court, an official said yesterday.
However, it is unlikely that Thai Phan, the owner of the overburdened vehicle responsible for partially destroying the steel river crossing, will be able to come up with the cash, according to provincial director of transportation and public works Mao Thunnearak.

Driver gets off light for collapsed Mondulkiri bridge
A man whose overloaded truck snapped a steel bridge in Mondulkiri in December will only have to pay a quarter of the original damage bill, provincial authorities have decided.
Thai Phan, whose Hyundai truck was laden with about 20 tonnes of bricks and cement when it crossed O’plai bridge in Pech Chreada district three weeks ago, was initially asked to come up with more than $40,000 to repair the structure, which split in two and plunged into the river below.
