Sihanoukville: According to correspondent of Koh Santepheap Daily News, three family members were seriously injured while four other were slightly injured in an attack happened in the middle of the night on 29 December 2015 in village 1, commune 1, Sihanokville. The victims are being prepared to send to hospital in Phnom Penh.
Police assumed that it was a revenging because the victim family is a poor family. The attacker had successfully fled the scene and police is investing and searching for the attacker.

Sihanoukville family hacked as they slept

Seven members of a Sihanoukville family – including five children – were brutally assaulted as they slept early yesterday morning by an unknown assailant wielding an axe, police have said.

Three of the victims, a 1-year-old child, the children’s 65-year-old grandmother and their 32-year-old mother, Um Phanna, were whisked to hospital in Phnom Penh in critical condition.

The other four children remain in Chamkachek Hospital in Sihanoukville and are said to be stable.

Shocking images taken by police of the crime scene and published in local media show the children sprawled across their shared bed spattered with blood.

The children’s father was on a fishing trip and re-turned home yesterday afternoon to the traumatic news his entire family had been hospitalised.

The family members, who are from Village 1 in Sihanoukville’s Commune 1, were sharing a bed when the attacker entered their house and began hacking at the family.

“They are all now staying at Chamkachek Hospital and the seriously injured victims were sent to Phnom Penh. Another two of the children have swelling around their heads,” said Phan Narith, Sihanoukville deputy police chief.

He added that the as-yet-unidentified attacker fled the scene after the assault some time between 12am and 1am yesterday morning.

It is being suggested that the attack stems from a land dispute.

Two in Sihanoukville axe attack die

Two of the seven family members brutally attacked as they slept in Sihanoukville on Tuesday have died of their injuries.

Between the hours of 12am and 1am on Tuesday morning, an as-yet-unidentified attacker broke into Um Phanna’s family home in Sihanoukville’s Lek 1 commune, Village 1, and hacked at her children and mother as they slept.

Phanna, 32, whose five children were badly injured in the attack, died yesterday at the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital in Phnom Penh.

Her 12-year-old child, who was also brought to Phnom Penh for treatment yesterday, died on the way to the capital.

Preah Sihanouk provincial police chief Chuon Narin confirmed that the two had died.

“The victim, the 32-year-old mother, died at the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital, and one of the four kids who was sent to Kantha Bopha Hospital died on the way,” he confirmed.

He added that the hunt for suspects was ongoing but declined to comment further on any leads uncovered in the investigation.

Hospital Goes On Defensive After Ax Victim’s Death

Administrators at Phnom Penh’s Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital on Thursday refuted claims that hospital staff denied a brain scan, blood transfusions and surgery to a wom­an suffering from severe head wounds—a charge leveled by her husband shortly before she died there on Wednesday afternoon.

The woman, Oum Phana, 31; her mother Touch Som Oun, 67; and her 5-year-old son were sent to the Khmer-Soviet hospital on Tuesday afternoon after an unknown assailant entered their home in Si­hanoukville’s Muoy commune and attacked them with an ax as they slept, also hacking at four of her oth­er children. Her 13-year-old daugh­ter died on Wednesday while being transferred to Phnom Penh from a hospital in Preah Sihanouk.

Murder charge laid in Sihanoukville axe attack



The 26-year-old man suspected of a brutal axe attack on a family of seven in Sihanoukville was charged by the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Court on Saturday following a nine-day manhunt which culminated in his arrest on Thursday.

Investigative judge Kem Eng charged Loi Sopheak, who had previously served a five-year sentence for robbery, with premeditated murder and repeat felony offences under articles 200 and 85 of the Penal Code, and ordered Sopheak be held at the provincial prison. According to the Penal Code, Sopheak will face a life sentence if convicted.
