What Happens to my Year Visa if I update my passport?

Post by Bring Back Buck »

I am in need of updating my passport as I am about to run out of pages. However I still have 6 months left on my visa and I can get a new passport sent to me here. Which leaves me with an empty passport and visa in an invalid passport

Anyone had experience with this?

just carry both passports with you.

when u arrive, show them your visa in old passport, they will stamp entry stamp in new one

Yes.

You will need to carry around your old passport with your old visa in it until you don't need that visa any longer.

So, you have a valid visa in an invalid passport.

So carry both passports for the time being.

NOTE:

No matter what, you will need your old passport when you exit Cambodia the next time, even if you don't leave for several years and already have new visas in your new passport.

The reason being: Your entry stamps are in your old passport, and they will need to stamp you out in your old passport.

Hope that clears things up!

I'm currently straddling 2 passports without any issues. Your post reminded me to renew my visa (thanks) and I'm flying to the UK in August. I'll post an update it anything interesting happens.

Yeah you just carry both passports.

You can pay to have your visa transferred into your new passport but I'm not sure of the cost of this.

When I went through this my visa only had 2 months left and I didn't travel much so didn't see the point. If you have 6 months + left on you visa and travel regularly it may be worth it.
