True that it's often hard to tell the difference. :bad: Even when it's not pesticide it can kill you.
And don't drink it for 3 days straight:
An Oddar Meanchey province couple died on Monday evening after a three-day boozing binge, police said yesterday.
Korn Khorn, 53, a moto driver, and his common law wife, Eang Rith, 54, died after drinking rice wine they had bought from a local store over a period of 36 hours, according to Anlong Veng commune police chief Vong Sun...

“We need to investigate this case, because if they died of loss of consciousness, why did they die at the same time and in the same situation?” he asked.

Sounds like a very slow suicide.

Don't they put strychnine in it to give it a bit of pep? That'd be my guess on that story.

This was no accident. They drank it on purpose, they just didn't realize how potent the poison is. These countryside folk will drink anything that gives a buzz.

Five Battambang workers hospitalised after consuming herbicide

Five workers spraying a cassava field in Battambang province’s Phnom Proek district were hospitalised on Saturday after accidentally mixing concentrated herbicide with their rice wine after work, police said yesterday.

San Nget, chief of police in Phnom Prek’s Pichr Chenda commune, said that victims Sey Tork, 28; Korn Tha, 30; Som Sao, 28; Meng Heng, 38; and Suon Thu, 28, had been sent to the district health centre, where two began to recover after being given injections by health centre staff. The other three, whose conditions were worse, had to have their stomachs pumped.

“However, the medics of Phnom Proek Health Centre maintained that the above five victims have now been saved,” Nget said yesterday.
