France and Cambodia Agree to a Mutual Extradition Treaty. Bad News for Sam Rainsy?

Post by General Mackevili »

This potentially means that Sam Rainsy can be extradited from France back to Cambodia for any random charges that come his way.

Oh, and besides the mutual extradition treaty between the 2 countries, Cambodia was also handed $115M USD in "loans."

From the Cambodia Daily:

Ang Vong Vathana, Cambodia’s justice minister, also met with his French counterpart, Christiane Taubira, at the Elysee Palace to ink a deal obliging both countries to extradite criminals indicted in each other’s jurisdictions.

Along with many other opposition figures, CNRP President Sam Rainsy has over the past 20 years made frequent use of his French passport to flee Cambodia to avoid convictions widely seen as politically motivated.

I wonder what France is getting for this deal. I doubt there's too many on the run from authorities here so they're probably getting some connected deal in another area.... maybe a trading license for a french company or something. I doubt the European Court of human rights would allow a politically motivated extradition anyway and HE would know this.
