Young Child Falls in Empty Hospital Elevator Shaft and Dies

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Young Child Falls in Empty Hospital Elevator Shaft and Dies

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Phnom Penh, Cambodia: A technical error in an elevator has left a nine year old Cambodian boy dead. The hospital is Poly Clinic Hong En on Street 217.

The boy seems to press the elevator button, and then tries to open it himself. Then the elevator door opens prematurely and you can see that it's dark with no elevator in it, and he mistakenly enters anyways. Image

Dear god! Poor child... : (

Hope the parents don't see the video. Can't imagine how haunting this is to watch one's child last moments.

Yeah, I thought about that, then thought there's just no way they haven't seen it.

Wow, that's really awful. Worse, he was at a hospital, so he probably wasn't feeling great to begin with.

I didn't even watch the video but I assume it shows the boy's actions and his fall. :(
Also, for those who watched, was this video recorded from a phone as the footage is played on screen?

I guess so too. No way to avoid it on social media. Can't imagine the parents' distress.
