that is pure nonsense..
Watch Clint Eastwood's flic The Mule..
Did I miss some news flash that all elderly Japanese men are rich?
Perhaps, he lost his bundle at a shit hole casino?
Maybe he needs money for his wife's surgery?
He did not seem greedy..
He seemed desperate ...
so fucked up..
this evil shit going all over poisoning people.. destroying lives...users and non-users.
I said plenty rich. I didn't mean he's vastly wealthy. I mean he's got all his needs and wants met. All Japanese do. Perhaps he is a patsy, only cod knows what the circumstances are. Perhaps he is using methamphetamine, emboldening him to smuggle that garbage. The true story will eventually come out.

You should watch the film Shoplifters, or look into the phenomenon of elderly Japanese going to prison in large numbers:
"I reached pension age and then I ran out of money. So it occurred to me - perhaps I could live for free if I lived in jail," he says.

OK sure that stuff happens. Rarely. That guy and others like him are the few exceptions that prove the rule. Japan operates just like a European country with vast safety nets.

Things seem to be changing quite rapidly nowadays.
As a Japanese citizen, sad but have to admit.

Cambodia News, Phnom Penh: The Phnom Penh Municipal Court on the morning of September 15, 2020, sentenced a Japanese man to 25 years in prison for attempting to smuggle nearly 2 kg of drugs from Cambodia to Japan.
On the night of 15 February 2020, Cambodian Customs and Excise authorities cooperated with the gate police and the specialized force of the Anti-Drug Department at Phnom Penh International Airport to search and detain NONAKA SHUNICHI, a 72-year-old Japanese man.

Mr. Lim Sambath, Director of the Customs and Excise Office at Phnom Penh International Airport, told reporters on the morning of February 17 that the arrested suspect was traveling on flight KE 690 from Phnom Penh to Seoul and expected to continue on flight KE 767 (Seoul-Amori) as the final destination.

I knew someone paid Pommie pensioner couple $5000 to do runs from Europe with four or five bottles of spirits. About 700ml of liquid coke in each bottle. He would turn it back into powder on arrival.
One day on Christmas Eve the bottles were stolen from the hotel room. Led to torture and murder.... great story.
