Breaking news from Cambodia can be found here. CEO often finds Khmer news and translates it into English for our readers if it is interesting to expats, locals, Cambodians living abroad and anyone who wants to stay informed of the latest local and international news stories about Cambodia and our neighbors in South East Asia. There are many sources for Khmer news articles and they can all be found here in one place. Most of the media comes out of Phnom Penh, Siem Reap or Sihanoukville, but we cover national Cambodian news from all provinces.

It’s a manners thing.

Then when the lady goes home, she then reports to her husband, father, mother, etc. that some foreigner was ‘woo ing’ them and she ‘woo ed’ them back.

Also known as Khmer flirting.

yes I agree, Khmers and Chinese eat with their mouths open, slurp, burp, pick their nose in public, spend hours at work grooming themselves as opposed to the privacy of their home, pull their grey hairs out in public, defecate in public, spit on the floor of restaurants, etc. It is a manners thing, haha, nothing about Asians is about manners my friend, in the west manners are the social lubricant, for Asians, it is money, nothing else but money ever.

It's interesting to hear both of your perspectives.

I smile as much as I can in this world. But your comments got me to think about smiling in general and the body language - primitive ape thing.

First off - I smile at men too - it's definitely NOT flirting. The ladies I smile at are most times not flirting on my part - just friendly... I guess anyone can read a flirty smile..

Sooo. If you smile at a Khmer lady - do they see that as flirting.... I'm interested in your opinions.

Eating with mouths open - I've never actually seen that. I may just not be conscious of it - I'll look more carefully next time I go out... But then again.....

Slurping - agree - we all love a good slurp now and again.

Picking noses in public - again I have never seen it or rarely shall we say..

Hours grooming at work - again no - the staff are generally too busy..

Pulling grey hairs out??? I'm definitely puzzled now - generally they go to the salon..

Defecate in public - where exactly - I have never seen it.. Pissing - yes.

Spit on the floor of restaurants - ahhhh - yes - some places and sometimes I have seen it at other tables - not people at mine.

Money - yes - I do have to sometimes ask them to change the conversation as it's boring and crass to me even though it may be interesting to them.

However, I have lowered my expectations as to whether they can meaningfully debate Schrodinger's cat, Quantum cryptography or the latest scientific breakthroughs or pretty much anything outside of their world-views.

Thanks for the points...
