Agree with Cam here ( fuk, I must be sober!), that the cops don't normally target an old barang like this without a reason.
I wonder if it was the same situation, where he pissed off the young taxi girl he was with at the time and her revenge was to dog him to the cops?

Yeah, anyone arrested for minor drug possession or visa overstay has done something to precipitate the interaction with the police in the first place.
