Credulous Woman Sends Off $2000 to Phone Scammer
Phnom Penh, Cambodia News: On November 06, 2018, a couple went to Chom Chao1 police post to file a complaint that they got scammed US$2000 by a phone call.
The victim, a 30-year-old woman factory worker, received a call from an anonymous person that she had won a big amount of money, $100,000, but she needed to send them $2,000 to make an account to receive the money.
After sending the $2,000, the scammer asked her to send 500$ more, but the woman didn't have any more money, so she tried to borrow other people's money. Then she realized that it was a scam, so she and her husband went to file the complaint with the police.

419 over the phone... Idiot. Sending money to a stranger. Lol
Re: Credulous Woman Sends Off $2000 to Phone Scammer
Happens all the time - interested to know how she sent the money; Wing agents were taught to identify this type of scam & prevent the money transfer - amazing how many times however the customer insisted on sending the cash despite the warning, and that it is still going on some 8 years since the first case. Be fair, many folks outside Cambodia got scammed like this via email before it became a "Oh, you're a Nigerian prince and want to give me money? ... LOL". How many more years before Khmers have heard enough scam stories to use their own grey cells ...

Are you selling it by the meter or by the kilo. I might be interested if the price is right.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

I would like to meet this woman because I have a special box of extremely valuable jewels. They are worth so much that you can't even imagine how big the number is. She can just pay me with all her gold and cash. She has to remember not to open the box till she gets home.

1) They were trying this on my brother in law. They requested money to pay for lawyers fees so that they $1million could be released to him. It started with a Facebook contact and went to emails. They even had a website for a fake bank account that required a login, which the scammers provided. When you log-in it shows you an account balance of over $1million. My wife and I got wind of it before any money was lost.
2) I was targeted on a facebook scam where I won $500K and was requested to send money to a USA person/address for the processing. I kept them going for quite some time "If I want the check to come EVEN FASTER, is there an option that I can pay more for the expedited processing?" I even filled out a fake Western Union Receipt, I also called them via facebook messenger.
In both cases, they pretended to be old white ladies and started going on about God and Jesus. in instance #2 I asked if was OK that I'm not Catholic to still get the money and told them I am surprised Facebook started becoming so religious. Thankfully it was not an issue

There are tens of thousands of mainlanders running similar scams from premises all over the place. I'm not sure how many target the domestic market but the scale of it is unreal. We hear of a few hundred getting busted every month or so but that's only the tip.
