I'm not a big fan of loan sharks but this seemed very petty and nasty.
The suspects confessed that they had borrowed money from the victim, and on June 19, because they couldn't pay back their loan, they made a plan to kill the money lender. They asked the victim to come to their house to pick up the money and then they killed her. The body was put in a basket and dumped in the sewage canal on Street 370.
They must mean 371, 370 is in BKK1 and doesn't have any canal, 371 has plenty.
Major Ly Rithy, also with the Penal Police Unit, said that the three accused confessed during their interrogation that they had borrowed between $20 to $50 per month over several months from the victim in order to improve their businesses.

Maj Rithy said that upon knowing the victim owned jewellery and a luxury motorbike, the accused plotted to kill her in order to steal these items and avoid repaying their loans.
They [later] pawned the motorbike for $550 at a shop in Tuol Kork district.

It would be interesting to know what the total amount owed was, or if they owed a few thousand a piece and were paying back $20 to $50 interest a month each?
Silence, exile, and cunning.

How society is now with their phones is a weird thing that I just can't relate to or understand.

It is particularly prevalent here. Any conflict or personal event and they will hustle for a ringside seat. It's a mentality I can not relate to either, and it's visible that they know it's wrong, when confronted (older ones).
