We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. UPDATE: At 3 pm, the victim, along with a man on a motorbike, rented a room and told the guesthouse employee that they wanted to rent for one hour. An hour later, the man went away alone, in a rushed and panic manner. The staff thought it was suspicious and he went to look at the room where the two were sleeping and found the woman dead. He was shocked and reported to the incident to the police.

After questioning, the murderer confessed to the police that he and his girlfriend had been dating for many years, and used to have sex. On the day of the incident, when the two met at the guesthouse, he and his girlfriend had not yet had intercourse, but they were talking about how he wanted her to divorce her husband, and she refused.

The murderer admitted to hitting his lover, but said that he thought she was not dead when he left, and he also said that he did not take anything like jewelry or money from the deceased. He admitted that he left his girlfriend lying motionless on the bed of the guesthouse before he drove off.

Maybe this experience will help some more women understand prostitution isn't the answer to their perceived financial hardship. Can't have your cake and eat it too.

Killer confesses " he and his girlfriend had been dating for many years, and used to have sex. On the day of the incident, when the two met at the guesthouse, he and his girlfriend had not yet had intercourse, but they were talking about how he wanted her to divorce her husband, and she refused."

I believe the correct term for a married woman having a boyfriend is adultress. As to prostitutes having only a "perceived financial hardship", that appears to me to be a tad judgemental, I doubt many prostitutes in Cambodia come from the elite class of the local citizenry. I think this is especially true considering she was with a Khmer riding a scooter, hardly like she was a bargirl servicing expats.

This post is not intended to be trolling or an attack on the poster but a simple rebuttal of his claim that the victim of this crime was a prostitute and that her murder should be a warning to other women h is somehow justified given her moral lapse.

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Have you ever asked a Cambodian bar girl, or any Cambodian girl for that matter, if she or anyone she knows is a prostitute? Try it, I'll bet you get a flat 'no' for a response. When I use the term prostitute, I don't necessarily mean someone wearing 5" heels and standing on a street corner. As stated later in the thread, MY definition is exchanging sex for money (or property such as, moto, land, phone,...). It is possible my definition of prostitute is different than yours or others here on CEO.

In the western hemisphere, we ordinarily consider prostitutes to be whores, with no difference in meaning.

I fully realize the OP did not explicitly use the term prostitute or whore. But I also know the culture here, have witnessed it with my own eyes on wayyyy too many occasions, have spoken to many Khmer guys and gals about it, to be comfortable and convinced in posting what I did. The allegation that after a couple years she still wasn't interested in divorcing her husband might also be an indication that she had never fully left him in the first place, and thus, going to guesthouses with this winner might possibly have been to earn extra cash on lunchbreaks. Unfortunately, we'll never know the reason for her decision to be with this fantastic guy. Perhaps she actually realized this guy wasn't the kind of guy she wanted for a husband, this not wanting to divorce her husband for him, and simply didn't foresee his tendencies. On the whole, it's really not a difficult leap to make the assertion I did. It's more likely true than not.

I should add, that I don't think it's right to kill someone over a jealous love triangle affair, and I am saddened she lost her life. Khmer guys generally don't have a ton of restraint or self discipline. Hell, they don't have a lot of things. He could have possibly chosen a different option than murder, such as have another wing of a love triangle with a different woman, and see if that would have helped her change her mind. Another might be to just move on from her entirely. Murder wasn't a wise choice. I'm guessing, judging from his mugshot, his getaway vehicle was a Honda Dream and not a Lexus or Range Rover and that he used a guesthouse rather than his villa or posh hotel, that he's not uber-wealthy, so he will probably have a lot of time to think of other ways he could have acted.

RIP young lady.
