Wife Refuses to Put Out, So...

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Wife Refuses to Give Money for Liquor, (Then) Refuses to Have Intercourse at Night…so (Husband) Hangs Himself

Reporter: Apsara
Friday 20th February 2015, 16:40

Pursat Province ៖ A construction labourer who had committed suicide by hanging was discovered in front of his house hanging from a Salvadora tree by the edge of a pond in the village of Aurbarkrongkroam, Sangkat Banteay Day, Pursat Town at 6 in the morning of the February 2oth 2015.។

His wife informed that her husband was called Kheang Kimseang, 29 years old, a construction labourer. On the evening of the 19th her husband asked her for money to buy liquor to drink, but she refused to give any more because he had been drinking with his friends and other people in the village each day of the Chinese New Year celebration and had been drunk up until this time. At night he asked to have sexual intercourse, but because his wife was ‘not feeling well’ she didn’t agree to sleep with him. (So) he sat up until 11pm playing with his lighter and smoking and then he went downstairs and she didn't notice him come back. She assumed that he was sleeping below the house and she didn't bother to go and check. At 6 in the morning she unexpectedly saw him hanging dead by his neck from a nylon rope from a Salvadora tree by the edge of the pond about 10 meters in front of the house. ។

The competent authorities who came to inspect the dead body confirmed that the victim had indeed died from suicide by hanging. There was no indication on the body to suspect that he had died from a murder or other methods. The victim consumed by rage and was angry with his wife (because she) hadn’t given money to buy liquor to drink and she hadn’t agreed to have sexual intercourse with him the previous night. In the past (the victim) had never had disagreements with his wife or with other people. However, this is the (same) version of events given by the wife. The actual events need to be reconstructed by the police investigators. ។

More detailed information will be published in the pages of the Koh Santepheap.

When I read this, I can only be thankful he went out without a BANG and didn't hurt/kill his wife or others in the process.

Yeah, he was man enough and didn't punch her and kick her when she was in the ground claiming it was all her fault. Just as dumb, but decent, somehow.

Perfectly reasonable very short term thinking - the type of which we see far too often in the Kingdom.

Interesting that you should say that.

The exact sentence was
ជនរងគ្រោះអាចគិតខ្លី តូចចិត្តនឹងប្រពន្ធ
Which literally translates as "the victim thought short (and was) disappointed/angry with his wife"
I translated គិតខ្លី as "consumed with rage" as it has a very similar meaning in this context: his present emotion had taken over and he was unable to think clearly.
How else could have I have translated គិតខ្លី into English?
