Phnom Penh, Cambodia Breaking News: A man was found lying dead with his head in a pool of blood at a house in Group 2, Trea 4 village, Stung Meanchey 3, Meanchey district. Preliminary police reports say that he was killed by an axe. The victim's wife and mother are the chief suspects in the murder, which occurred on the afternoon of February 23, 2020.

The victim's name is Kang Sokhom, 32-years-old, and his wife has been identified as Phoeuk, 22, a businesswoman, and his mother-in-law as Hess Sopheap, 59. All three were living together at the above address, and neighbors say that there were constant argument between the two women and the victim. Yesterday afternoon, the women left the housekeys with the neighbors and fled the scene.


The neighbors went to check the house and found Kang Sokhom lying on the floor of the living room in a pool of blood, so they called the Steung Meanchey III police station immediately.

Update: The latest report on this family killing says that the 59-year-old mother of the victim acted alone when she picked up an axe and viciously hacked her son four times on the head and face. She attacked him while he was sleeping because she was angry with him. The man's wife was asleep elsewhere, but the attack was witnessed by his 7-year-old daughter. [If you have seen the photos of the victim, you can imagine the trauma that this would cause in a young child.]
The older woman then walked away from the house saying to her daughter-in-law that she had killed her son, and she told the neighbors to go and make his funeral. The panicked wife fled to the neighbor's house with her little girl, and the neighbor went to the crime scene and called the police. The murderer is said to be mentally ill, and suffered from outbreaks of anger and violence while she was living with her son's family. She is still being actively sought by police.
