When Google Met WikiLeaks

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Detailed analysis of Google's deeply intertwined relationship with the US government, backed up by Wikileaks documents. Google's do-goody image superficially masks the ambitions of a global mega-corp. it's not just ad revenue and free email that fuel Google. As one example, Assange analyzes the emails between Google co-founder Brin and CEO Schmidt with NSA chief Keth Alexander. (Emails obtained via FOIA). While these chatty emails got some media attention, Assange goes much deeper. Assange's research into the State Dept background and activities of Jared Cohen, director of Google's Ideas, likely reveals where Google's tentacles are grasping next. It's disheartening to read how Google has become a top lobbyist and co-dependent with the government. Would Bill Gates or Steve Jobs have compromised their companies like Eric Schmidt has? This ill-conceived partnership may rot Google from within ... even if Google ends up sustained like a military contractor. This book is the kind of outstanding reporting that activists and everyday gmail and Google searchers should read for insights into the how techology companies are evolving with the national security state. Great work, Assange!

Und der Haifisch der hat Tränen
Und die laufen vom Gesicht
Doch der Haifisch lebt im Wasser
So die Tränen sieht man nicht

In der Tiefe ist es einsam
Und so manche Träne fliesst
Und so kommt es dass das Wasser
In den Meeren salzig ist

Sounds like they have an agenda, in another word, publicity. The 2 founders of Google should be admired living up to their motto by walking away from the communist Chinese allowing them to access people info. Billion dollars industry and they walked away from it. And they proved themselves right...who use hotmail anymore, who use yahoo anymore, and the maps etc.

Geeks they are, but cool geeks.

its an excellent book an very insightful about how the internet and technology operates, and where things are headed. :thumb: :thumb:

and this just out;
According to the edition, Assange arrived at the conclusion that Google works for the US government after meeting Google president Eric Schmidt and board member Jared Cohen in 2011. The meeting was also attended by Lisa Shields and Scott Malcomson who turned out to be Washington’s diplomatic envoys.

WikiLeaks founder in his book says he was visited by a group of people 3/4 of whom were representatives of the US State Department and the rest being fromGoogle.

According to the edition, the company provides FBI and CIA with unfettered access to users’ correspondence. Such access can be obtained without the prosecutor’s approval or a court ruling, the edition quotes Assange.

Didn't Snowdon reveal Google, and all the rest of the tech giants, for that matter? :oops:
