What? The American Ambassador grew a pair?
Ambassador William Todd, who is known for his weekly blog "From the Ambassador"which usually consists of syrupy praise for the giant strides toward democracy that Cambodia is making interspersed with America's contributions toward that goal, has recently come under fire from the Cambodian government and was called "insolent" by Hor(don't you love the name)Namhong,.

The furor is around the unreleased draft law governing NGOs Of course Phay Siphan, dealing for the house laid down his (i.e. their) cards. " Speaking yesterday, government spokesman Phay Siphan defended the government’s criticism, saying that because the government was “the government of the people”, its actions represented “the will of the people”. He also said that international agencies should take any criticisms or suggestions to the Foreign Ministry, rather than airing them in public, in order to maintain a friendly relationship built on mutual respect. “We are human beings, not animals,” he said.
Ambassador Todd was also given to overstatement, " Todd wrote. “As the Cambodian government considers the next steps, it is important to realize that the world is watching.” When is the last time the world had its vision focused on Cambodia? Certainly not during the Khmer Rouge period which certainly deserved its attention.

Re: What? The American Ambassador grew a pair?
Most if not all that work in American embassies or are appointed by the whatever president that is in office are lowlife bottom feeders.
Case in point. When I moved to Cambodia the foreign employees of the American Social Security system in Manila found out that I was living in Cambodia which by a ruling (not a law) is (was ) a banned country for US citizens to collect SS benefits. Its seems Mrs. Anita Allegra, Head of Consular Affairs (US Embassy) was suppose to meet with Cambodian ministers so the SS system could have access to Cambodia records. (to see if the US citizen collecting benefits was still alive.) Mrs. Allegra was too busy planting trees and meeting with feminist groups from America to take care of business.
I worked 6 hours a day, 7 days a week for 6 months contacting every US congressman, Cambodian-American attorney/law firm, senior citizen group, veterans group, etc and got the ruling changed taking Cambodia off the banned list.
BTW/ Anita Allegra during the Thai Tsunami disaster was point contact person for US families trying to contact loved ones. Allegra screwed up the job and didn't even know the name of the towns in Thailand and she and her husband Theodore Allegra were transferred to the Phnom Penh US Embassy.
Theodore Allegra was Charge' Affairs at the PP US embassy. He got promoted and sent to Washington DC for "Cementing" relationships with the Cambodian government. I found a wikileaks letter that T. Allegra sent to his boss's in Washington stating that the Cambodian government was "corrupt, stupid, can't govern themselves and are thieves." I sent this to every Cambodian minister and government higher up.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Allegra are presently in Washington DC and more than likely in some sub-sub basement offices shuffling papers from one box to another. "I don't believe in getting even, because that all you get."

Wow, interesting if true.
I wouldn't go so far as to say all are bottom feeders, I know one who is a very nice guy, and if we judge embassies by present history, the US is doing OK, as opposed to one or two others.

A possibly unintended ripple effect - I commented to a Khmer friend that we were heading to Lucky Lucky for a visa renewal today, he sucked air through his teeth and asked if I knew about the Ambassador disrespecting HE. I replied I had, he commented that he'd heard Immigration (?) was going to make visa renewals sticky for a while. He seemed happy when I reminded him we're not USofYankians.

Did you mention that we have just given 40 million dollars to Cambodia for taking care of 3 refugeesStroppyChops wrote:A possibly unintended ripple effect - I commented to a Khmer friend that we were heading to Lucky Lucky for a visa renewal today, he sucked air through his teeth and asked if I knew about the Ambassador disrespecting HE.
