Well-known British Expat Tony Jones, Owner of Charlie Harper's Bar in Sihanoukville, Dies in a Motorbike Accident, RIP

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

This was terrible news to wake up to today. Tony Jones is one of my better friends in Sihanoukville, and Charlie Harpers is a must stop on every trip there.

As others have said, he organized some fun pub crawls. I think one with with LoudJohn too, and they all gave me shit for being a light drinker. :beer1: I tried, LoL.

He also won The People's Choice award for LoneStar's chili cookoff a few years back. I guess he one a t-shirt. Kind of funny because he checked the shirt in to Pontoon later that night and forgot to get it when he left. A bunch of us met up for brunch the next day, and he hands me the ticket. "Here, pick my Chili Cookoff t-shirt from Pontoon when get the chance, I know you go there all the time." Right he was.

Picked it up the next night, but I think it took almost a year til I got it to him.

Orange dragon stayed at his guesthouse for a while, and he was even one of the first buddies to get an ad banner up on CEO.

He's also a fellow Cambodia expat forum owner, Sihanoukville Online. His friends have a topic about his death too:

Anyways, sad news, but glad he lived it up while he was around! He will be missed by many.

Rest in Peace, Tony.

RIP.

Please wear helmets when travelling on bikes in Cambodia. And not just those caps that ward off traffic police. I'm losing count of the number of avoidable deaths I've seen over the years.

Here's a good picture of him, and looks like he's wearing the Lone Star shirt I talked about:

Tony was my best friend in Cambodia. I met him in his previous Bar, the Circle Bar for 8 years ago and became good friends and had some good times together in Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh. :beer3: Coming back to Sihanoukville in 3 weeks will not be the same without Tony. R.I.P. mate. I will miss you.

The ceremony will start tomorrow at 10:30, the cremation is at 11. At Wat Krom. And please understand, there is always a chance that this change again.
