Water festival: 30 guys'n'gals arrested for Police/Army disguises

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Call me simple but I thought people who ride around with "Police" on their helmet or jacket were police, or wives of?

Yes I know. You can also get army gear.
I know this because my family members are both and that's where they get their uniform, if they need a replacement.

So. How can tell they are not police? My nephew looks nothing like a cop. More like a tuk tuker.
Not saying it doesn't go on but it's not as prevalent as people think.

Is plain clothed police officers even a thing in cambodia? I only ever see teenagers with these jackets and it's plain obvious that they're not real police

When I work on our grounds I wear OD fatigues and combat jungle boots. On occasion I wear them on rare forays to Kampong Cham. For some strange reason no one considers me a member of the Cambodian military.

I rather suspect it's due to the fact that I am obviously a white foreigner and at 73, an old one at that. Perhaps they find it humorous, but no one goes looking for the police.

Unrelated, what’s with all the dudes in matching suits and sunglasses with red ties this year? They just stand around watching everything.
I think they are BHQ guys too, there were thousands of them.

Yes, there are huge numbers of plain-clothes police and Gendarmerie around. They usually wear button-down shirts, slacks and leather shoes, and carry one or more Icoms.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

I thought they were. Any idea o. Why they were dressed like that this year? They all had ID tags in their jacket pockets and looked the part but I had never seen them like that before.
