I want my sidewalk back.

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

I want my sidewalk back.

Post by Duncan »

Often find myself walking down the middle of the road cause businesses operate on the footpath, moto's , tuk-tuk's and cars double park.
I wish I was a Traffic policeman able to fine traffic offenders.

afaik, sidewalks were declared extinct in Cambodia around 1990.

The species has not been sighted since.

The introduction of vendorus obnoxious initiated its demise.

Probably as bad drivers as well.

Come to Cambodia where we have the very worst driving in the world, and no pavements.

You can have a little bit of St. 148 back.
Street vendors told to move from road

Sen David / Khmer Times

Daun Penh district authorities on Monday ordered a group of vendors who have been selling their goods from baskets or small stalls for many years to move from a street at Kandal market to allow traffic to pass through.

On Monday, Daun Penh authorities held a meeting which decided to order vendors to move from Street 148 in Kandal market from Tuesday.

Sok Penhvuth, the Daun Penh district governor, said Street 148 is a public road near Kandal market, but some vendors set up there to sell fish or vegetables and have blocked the whole street for many years.

He said he ordered market authorities to collect the names and number of vendors who sell there and block the road, which he wants to reopen to traffic.

“They come to sell there but block the public road,” he said.

Aw cmon they are only trying to make a living. One house I looked at the agent told me the vendor outside was paying $300 rent to sell dognoodles and that would be coming to me if I rented the house. Its the turds driving the wrong way up one way streets, especially in cars< that get my vote as top of the extermination list

If the road is not rented out to sellers, where are the '' rent collectors '' going to get their beer/tea money from ?

Actually I'm all in favor with street 5 being converted into a mall for sellers as the sidewalks have already been taken over by businesses.
