Re: Volunteers sought to build home in Cambodia
The concept is good, but how much do they actually cost to build.....??
An Aussie bloke is doing a similar thing in Fiji:

They are nothing like that...
$5K........

and to add insult to injury he gave them the smallest tv he could find and stuck it hi up on the wall!
bastard
Simple reason,,, little kids have dirty grubby hands. Who wants the job of cleaning the tv screen every time you want to watch it.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

I know a Khmer chap who worked for Habitat a few years ago, he thought there was corruption. But that would be hard to avoid of course.

Re: Volunteers sought to build home in Cambodia
The interesting feature of the modular houses in Fiji is that they are designed and built to
be typhoon-proof. It's not something that people here have to contend with.
While on the subject of which charities are deserving and which are less so, these people
are believed to be 200% above suspicion:

It is - of course - nonsensical for a retired school librarian to fly half way around the planet
to play at being a carpenter's helper, but s/he prefers to do that than stay at home and
raise funds.

This sounds like a great business opportunity. Ten people at $650 for two weeks, materials $2000. Profit $4500.
