Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. Pursat, Cambodia News: Shortly after midnight, in the early hours of 9 January 2019, a Vireak Buntham passenger bus collided with a Toyota car coming in the opposite direction. The accident occurred on National Highway 5, between 140-141 Km in Sand Village Ekp commune, Pursat province.

The driver of the Toyota died at the crash scene, while the bus driver ran away and is being sought by police. The cause of the accident has not yet been determined, and Pursat police have impounded both vehicles while the case is being investigated. It is worth noting that the Vireak Buntham bus company has a particularly poor safety record for night transport in Cambodia.
There was no report on the state of the bus passengers.

Holding the Bus Company financially liable is the ONLY WAY to stop the needless bloodshed on the roads!

Is the owner an ordinary Khmer or an Okhna? If it were the former, then it would have happened a long time ago.

It's a safe bet that one of the biggest transport companies is the country isn't owned by anyone too ordinary, wherever they started from. Most of the tycoons in this country come from very humble backgrounds. It's not as if the company hasn't come under scrutiny before either:

Some staff have already been fired for previous criminal activity – Long Sopheap is not the first driver to have been arrested and prosecuted. Mr. Sopheap, who allegedly sexually assaulted a lone female traveller while she was sleeping, will be fired if the court find him guilty, according to Virak Buntham.

Fired? How about sentenced to jail?

There seems to be no sense of justice in the KOW?

The only thing that is true is POWER.

It seems the Toyota didn't even bother to switch on the lights, the Vireak bus is shining like a X-mas tree.
