Violence in Sihanoukville

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

You aren't registered with the embassy? I think your passport will be flagged on the way back to the States.

Just my guess. In the event of emergency evacuation, only those who registered with their embassy will get the first priority to board the plane.

I spoke with them last night when I went to this party (still a packed house when I finished working at 4am) and they are uncertain if they'll open again or not. A lot of unanswered questions from the authorities on the matter, but they're preparing to be told they can't.

So the boys-in-brown are closing all the beach bars? If a beach bar serves food isn't it a restaurant? I wonder if they are going to close the beach-bars/restaurants so that the buildings can be bulldozed and the friends of the high up boys-in-brown can build up-market bars/restaurants/hotels? I saw this happen in Thailand time and again. Same Same, But Different.

eventually they will have to get rid of those bars purely for sanitary reasons if they want to make the water safe for swimming.

Yeah, I think that's why pirate cave is the only one getting hit. They don't serve food.

As for the upmarket thing... perhaps, but there's actually been a lot of pressure from most of the other expat business owners about the beach bars, and then the statement from the embassy that specifically singled out that beach at night as being the danger zone. i think they pretty much HAD to shut down a bar or two there to be taken seriously at all about making a change.
