Victoria International Hospital Locks Up Women Who Can't Pay for Forced Operation
Phnom Penh, Cambodia News: On January 13, 2019, a woman and her mother were locked up at the Victoria International Hospital, because they didn't have enough money to pay an unexpected bill for surgery, on street 315/ 592, Sangkat Beungkok, Khan Toul Kok, Phnom Penh.
According to the woman victim, she booked a visit with a gynecologist at Victoria International Hospital where she had heard that there was a free health check-up. But when she went for her check-up, the doctors told her that she had a lump in her uterus that needed to be removed immediately or she would die. She told the clinic that she didn't have the money for the surgery, so she wanted to leave.
In the end, the clinic more or less forced the woman to undergo surgery by telling her that otherwise she was going to die, but they didn't tell her how much it was going to cost.
After the operation, the clinic gave a type-written paper to the victim's mother, which she didn't understand, and they asked her to put her fingerprint on the letter. Then they gave the the women a $US2,000 bill for the surgery.
The victim's mother was upset because she had only $600 and she asked the clinic to reduce the fee. The clinic did not agree, and they even said if the victim didn't pay on that day, immediately, they would add $500 for another night. The clinic then told the security guards to lock up the women at the clinic.
After they were locked inside the building, the victim called the police for help, and when the clinic saw the police and the news reporters arriving at the scene, they allowed the victims to leave.

Re: Victoria International Hospital Locks Up Women Who Can't Pay for Forced Operation
They are a bogus operation that should be shut down. My wife went there and was told that she needed an urgent procedure. When I rang them after she came home, they realised that a barang was involved, asked to talk to my wife and decided that it wasn't urgent!

From Phnom Penh Post 4 years ago:
The government has urged the owner of a clinic in Phnom Penh and media across the country to cease promotion of the hospital’s controversial “virgin surgery” as a matter of “honour”.
In a letter sent to Victoria International Hospital on Friday, and a separate letter released to the media yesterday, Information Minister Khieu Kannarith said that promotion of the surgery affects the “moral and traditional beauty of Cambodian society” and the “honour” of patients who come to the hospital for other procedures.
“To avoid the negative impacts of this promotion … which contains excessive details [about the procedure] that affect people’s feelings, please can all publishers stop promoting it urgently?” the letter says..........
....At the clinic yesterday morning, a Post reporter was prevented from speaking with hospital staff. A receptionist later said that she was not authorised to speak to the media, and multiple calls were not returned.https://www.phnompenhpost.com/national/ ... s-irk-govt
Comments from patients on their facebook page:
"Very expensive, everything money first , doctors so rude . I hate this hospital"
"Very very expensive , doctor same seller not worth this price no come here"

Excellent, I hope that this gets significant news coverage, and this sham of an operation gets the public shaming that they so richly deserve.
I'd bet this poor woman didn't need their procedure anyway. If the MoH wanted to set an example to the phonies out there, now is the opportunity.

Just putting 'international' in your hospital or school business name is a sham and no guarantee of success unless you meet some genuine standards or certification..

Maybe closed for good....apparently the doctors are currently on the run and not talking to the cops.

Re: Victoria International Hospital Locks Up Women Who Can't Pay for Forced Operation
That's great news. It sounds like they had the worst kind of scam going there, using their medical authority to frighten women into having unnecessary operations, and then taking all their money. These people need to be jailed.Felgerkarb wrote: ↑Mon Jan 14, 2019 7:42 pm Maybe closed for good....apparently the doctors are currently on the run and not talking to the cops.
