Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. Unprovoked attack by wild buffalo in Sihanoukville province

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

3 November 2017
Sihanoukville province - In the evening of 3 November, around 10:30pm, a wild animal resembling a male buffalo or a banteng (species not specified), came out of the forest and attacked a 19 year old man at Kampong Chen Village, Teuk Thla Commune, Prey Nup District, Phou Sambath, Sihanoukville.
The villagers chased the beast away, but the not before it made a nasty gash in the man with its horn. The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment.

Very unlucky, to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. That wound will sting for a while.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

Unprovoked? Maybe if people stopped encroaching on their habitat...

Jeez. What are the odds of that happening? There are probably only like 6 of those animals left in the world. The odds are probably worse than winning the Spanish El Gordo lottery while getting hit by lightning and by a falling meteor, all simultaneously.

It was payback for what the Khmer guy did to the buffalo's sister.

The high dorsal ridge and tightly curved horns would indicate that this is a Gaur rather than a Banteng. Gaurs are not as rare as Bantengs.

Gaur.

Bantengs, they seem to vary widely in appearance though:
