Police authorities have rescued six children in all, including two babies that the women pretended were their own, in order to beg for pity money from market goers. The other children were sent out among the market stalls to ask people to give them money for food, and most of the time they would earn between 20,000 and 40,000 riel. After some reports of child exploitation, the beggar gang was picked up by the police at Chhouk Meas market, Sen Sok district, and taken to the local station for questioning.

Police are now trying to track down the identities of the beggar children and find their families. In the meantime, the children are in the hands of the Phnom Penh Social Affairs Department, and the Sen Sok police officials are currently in the process of sending the case of the two women to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court.
