City Hall launches two pedestrian bridge constructions

City Hall on Saturday launched the construction of two pedestrian overhead bridges and the work is expected to be completed in six months.

Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the overhead bridges in front of Santhormok Primary School and at Phsar Doeum Kor market, both in Tuol Kork district.

He said that the two bridges will make it easier for pedestrians to cross the busy roads in the two locations.

“The overhead bridges will help pedestrians, especially students, in these two areas which are difficult to cross due to heavy traffic,” Mr Sreng noted.

The governor also urged Space Media Company Limited, tasked with the constructions, to build the bridges within six months.

A City Hall report said that both overhead bridges will be built across Mao Tse Tong Boulevard.

It noted that Phnom Penh currently has three pedestrian overhead bridges, two in Por Senchey district and one in Prampi Makara district.

The ones by Olympic seem to be working well, but the ones out past the airport are a disaster. A few people use them, but no one uses the market lane, so cars just line up on the side of the main highway to buy stuff/sell stuff. Songyang minivans wait for passengers there as well, worsening the gridlock. Complete waste unless they consistently inform/enforce the rules which make the facilities work efficiently.
