Two Casino 'Workers' Plummet to Death in Possible Escape Attempt
Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): In a shocking incident, two foreigners died on April 20, 2022, at 9:30 pm in Chrey Thom village, Sampov Poun commune, Koh Thom district, Kandal province, when they plummetted from the 6th floor of the Yongyuan Casino building.
They were identified as male Vietnamese nationals, PHAM HUU DU and LUU VIET LONG, who allegedly worked for the casino. [However, the preliminary evidence indicates that the men were attempting to escape.]
Two security guards named Ngoun Chhengly, Phat Somlot, and 2 other Vietnamese workers helped send the fallen victims to the nearby hospital but it was too late and both men were pronounced dead on arrival.
The police investigated the site and found out that the victims shared room #999 on the 8th floor of the A4 building on the casino campus. Police discovered that the welded balcony had been cut open to form a 29x41cm gap, through which it is suspected that the victims were planning to escape by lowering themselves down with the help of 3 blankets cut up and tied together.
Unfortunately, the men fell from the 6th floor to the ground where they suffered severe injuries. The autopsy found a 2cm deep cut to the left frontal skull, a 12cm scrap on the right shin, damaged bladder, and blood all over the PHAM HUU DU's body. The other man had a damaged waist, broken arms, and left thigh. The police concluded that the two men died from serious injuries caused by the fall.
However, the cause of the fall has not yet been officially determined, although there are strong indications that the two victims were being held against their will at the casino, and they died while attempting a desperate escape by lowering themselves from the balcony.
The bodies of the victims were kept at the Steung Meanchey pagoda while the authorities pursue the further investigation.

Atrocious. RIP

Why quote the whole article to say 'not a suicide pact', was there any need to quote it all?
Asking because long quotes scew up the viewing on phones.

Meanwhile a few Grannys were busted for playing dominos and $7 and 3 motorbikes were recovered. Feel safe.

Could easily have been staged. Homicide could still be on the table.
Pretty unlucky or unthought out for both to fall to their death. Were they descending together on the same sheet? Why wouldn't they go balcony to balcony, 1st guy secures sheet to railing of lower balcony. While 2nd guy slides down, he checks for open doors and windows and prepares the ensuing rappel.
If it is worth while checking for open doors (assuming they can escape from a lower floor), then they could have jimmied or smashed their way in, but this would have taken longer and involved a probable higher risk of re-capture.
And possibly, a similar survival probability.
No doubt, the forensics will have checked for blood on the embarking floor.
