Breaking: Vietnamese, Dutch nationals sentenced in child torture case
Thu, 13 July 2017
A Vietnamese national was found guilty of torturing and raping a 2-year-old child and sentenced to 18 years in prison in absentia in a Cambodian court on Thursday.
Nguyen Tangdung remains in Vietnamese custody after his Dutch boyfriend, Stefan Struik, encouraged him to flee the country after videos of the abuse went viral on Facebook in December.

For Struik’s role in concealing evidence and failing to report the mistreatment of a child, he was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment and ordered to pay a fine of four million riel (about $1,000), according to Mondulkiri Provincial Court spokesman Meas Bros.

Bros added that Tangdung was also sentenced to pay 80 million riel (about $20,000) to the family of the young victim.

Very mixed feelings about that outcome. Somewhat gratified that he got some jail time because I had a suspicion he might weasel out with merely time-served and a fine with some under the table dollars getting him out. However, the fine is derisory and presumably doesn't go to the parents? I'm also firmly of the opinion that he was involved far more deeply than the charges he faced suggested, so he didn't get anything like the jail time he deserved. He should have got something similar to the yuon filth. Perhaps there simply wasn't enough evidence, even by shit Cambodian judiciary standards, to give him a lengthy term. Or maybe two years was the deal he had to take, even with $ changing hands?

Speaking of the baboon, that filth gets off light, as well. 18 years he'll never serve because he won't ever come back to Cambodia and has a compensation order to the parents against him that he will never pay and they will never be able to enforce. Whatever he may or may not get in Vietnam, it'll be fuck all.

Abused Boy’s Mother Dies in Traffic Accident
A toddler on the path to recovery from a traumatic, publicized incident suffered another great loss: the death of his mother.
The mother of the two-year-old Cambodian boy—who was tortured in a series of about 50 videos causing local and international outrage—died in a motorbike accident two weeks ago, according to the boy’s father.

The family of five came to the country’s attention when videos of the two-year-old boy surfaced in December, showing a man using a stun gun on the boy’s head, backside, feet and genitals.
The boy is now living with his family in Preah Sihanouk province, after he had been liberated from the abuser, Nguyen Than Dung, a 34-year-old Vietnamese national, and his complicit boyfriend, Stefan Struik, a 53-year-old Dutch man.

The toddler had been in the process of recovering from the abuse when he lost his mother last month. The father, who will not be identified in order to protect his son’s identity, said over the phone that his wife died on October 20. He began to sob as he described the accident. At about 2 p.m., he drove down National Road 4 with his wife and 8-month-old daughter when they crashed with another motorbike in the middle of the street.
He and his daughter were fine, but his wife had to go to the hospital in Sihanoukville to get three stitches in her head. She died later that day, likely from injuries to the back of her neck, he said...

Christ... People should re-read this thread whenever they think they've had a bad day in order to put things into perspective. Poor family has had more than their share of bad things happen to them, hopefully they win the lotto or something.
