Two Agents Arrested for Cambodia Bride to China scam
22 November 2017
Kratie province - 2 agents who specialised in deceiving women into going abroad to marry Chinese men were arrested by police at the Kratie Province on 2017.11.19 .
The agents were Cambodian women who were engaged in convincing poor Cambodian women to travel from Vietnam to China in order to marry them off to men in return for a reward. The 2 agents were identified as a 45 year old lady, Ping Khema, and 43 year old Si Na.
After the two agents were caught, the police brought them back to the police station to submit their cases and conclude investigations.
Many Cambodian women who have been cheated often lack knowledge on how to keep themselves safe. They accept news from the winds believing that men in China are wealthy and that they can receive a good life after marrying them. Because of this, many willingly accept the lies of the agent and are sent abroad.
With this announcement, it is hoped that the increased efforts by the police will stop human trafficking, and empower women through educating them on how to stay safe, and teach them not to believe strangers who promise them a better life as the wife of a Chinese or foreign man.
