Monk detained for indecent assault

A Buddhist monk was arrested on Wednesday after assaulting a woman under the pretence of drawing a tattoo on her vagina in order to repel “bad luck” moles.

The suspect was identified as Venerable Sok Heng, 62, a monk living at Thammatrey pagoda in Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district.

District police officer Seng Vuthy said the monk was a renowned magic master and astrologer.

Mr Vuthy said the monk was invited to the 31-year-old woman’s house to treat her on Wednesday, after he earlier diagnosed her moles as the cause of misfortunes in her love life.

The victim knew the suspect and had visited his room at the pagoda before.

Mr Vuthy added the victim’s husband was unaware that magic was about to be performed on his wife’s vagina and was not home at the time. During the ceremony, the monk took three lit incense sticks to burn a symbol on the victim’s vagina in order to expel the supposed bad luck.

The victim’s husband, upon his return home, interrupted the ceremony. He caught the monk, kicked him, and brought him straight to the police station.

Sum Sary, chief of Prey Sar commune administrative police, confirmed the monk was released yesterday after a compromise was reached between the pagoda chief and the victim’s husband.

“The monk was accused of indecent assault, but due to a compromise between the two parties, and the intervention of the pagoda chief, he was released,” Mr Sary said.

“He has not been defrocked, and has returned to live in the pagoda as normal.”

I remember a reported case some years ago of a monk in Thailand getting caught with videos of multiple women he had convinced to get naked behind a screen in his temple and insert a banana inside themselves as part of some supposed spiritual ritual. Of course he had set up cams behind the screen. How adult Thai women were persuaded to follow that logic is baffling.

If some monk tried to insert a banana up my arse for some sort of spiritual cleansing, I'd say "Hell no! I'm not falling for that ........again."

That was actually in Cambodia. Though, I wouldn't be surprised if it happened elsewhere as well.

im only referring to organised systems that have laid down rules eg celibacy yet result in horrific sexual abuses not diety belief.
