Truck stops: zero tolerance at checkpoints for overloaded trucks
Mobile Vehicle Checkpoints Start
The Ministry of Transport has started checking trucks traveling along National Road 6 to ensure they conform to legal size and modification requirements, it announced this week.
According to a post on the ministry’s Facebook page, mobile inspection teams were deployed in Kampong Cham province to check trucks suspected of being overloaded via illegal modifications that have been blamed for causing $100 million of road damage a year.
In August, the ministry announced a deadline of September 9 for truck owners to voluntarily remove any modifications they may have made to their trucks, in order to comply with industry standards.
In October, Transport Minister Sun Chanthol announced that anyone found breaking the country’s traffic laws would be punished under the law, with no special provisions for offenders’ power or connections.
“Any truck, as long as it is illegal, will be [stopped] and trucks carrying overloaded goods will be stopped and fined according to the law. There will be zero tolerance,” he added...

Deja vu. I remember when all these weighing bridges were put in place and HE announced a "O" tolerance policy... During that time, I saw the boss of the check point in Pouk go from an old, beat-up Camry to a 2016 Lexus. Honi soit qui mal y pense.

23 year old truck drivers are renowned for their power and connections.
What happens after the fine? Carry on up the highway, overloaded, rear wheels askew, tearing up the tarmac.

Those truck owners are actually not happy with having their trucks modified, but if we listen to them they say that they had to do it because of the high price of fuel and the presence of illegal checkpoints on roads that demand transport fees.

PM to Stop Trucks
Tuesday, 22 November 2016
Prime Minister HE has ordered authorities, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and police to take legal action against any trucks that are illegally modified or carrying overloaded goods.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of National Road 76 in Rattanakiri province’s Lumphat district yesterday, Mr. HE announced that illegally modified trucks would not be allowed on roads across the Kingdom.
He added that the issue of illegally modified vehicles is not new, but has arisen again because of poor law enforcement.
“Now, continue to detain and cut them [illegally modified trucks] and if they are not cut they will not be allowed to travel on the road,” he said.
“The standard of trucks from the factory is 12 meters, but you [owners] lengthen them to 15 meters.”
Last month, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport started checking trucks traveling along National Road 6 to ensure they conformed to legal size and modification requirements.

I wonder again [ in the kingdom of wonder ] Who is issuing licence plates and collecting the one yearly fee, every year, to trucks that are illegally modified ?

Yes, but they do not even bother to put the trucks on it. Trucks stop on the road, driver dashes over, and pays...newkidontheblock wrote:hanno wrote:Deja vu.
