Trial passenger rail service to begin April 9

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Hey Duncan, if the train from PP leaves at 7 AM, and the train from SHV leaves at 7 AM, where do they pass each other?

Thanks Duncan, for the great informative report. I think they will have good numbers for Takeo and Kampot. Time is about the same as by bus or even taxi.

It only takes about 2 to 3 hrs max from PP to Kampot by taxi/car/minibus. Still, I wouldn't mind taking the train, gotta be safer than the roads.

Duncan, do they sell cold beer, drinks and food, and do they have toilets?

The train from Bangkok to Ayutthaya is even slower, about 4 hours for 80km.
nope;
Actually, yes. I was there, you weren't. It was an early evening "Express" service and it was only once but that's 100% of the times I made that journey. It was advertised as taking about an hour. Load of bollocks. It stopped everywhere every few minutes regardless of whether there was a station there or not, except for the couple of stations it didn't bother stopping at. And for that I was charged 245 baht despite the advertised price being 60 baht.

I saw only basic food on the train , instant noodles soft drinks. NO Alcohol. But I did see a toilet. Didn't see a train passing in the opposite direction . [ Maybe it went the other way back ????? ] What is really needed is a extra VIP carriage that has comfortable seats, tables and beer and food served, even if you have to pre order it . Hey, If airlines can do it at 30,000 ft , then it can be done at ground zero even easier and better. Foreigners will do this trip for the onetime experience, just as they would do a trip on the Ghan, through the Rockies or the Siberian Express , but they wont want to do it '' cattle class ''. If Royal cannot do it then some restaurant , hotel or bar should get in on the act.

Although the axle assemblies may not relate to the carriage being built.

Looking into it a bit more, they are apparently 1969 German Rail-cars and coaches.
