Trial passenger rail service to begin April 9

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

nope;
Myanmar the bus goes much faster,

I suggest you all check it out before it stops running,
Someone told me there is a passenger train from Bangkok to Pattaya that takes over 5 hours too.
They lied
its only a 90 minute taxi from the ariport
The train from Bangkok to Ayutthaya is even slower, about 4 hours for 80km.
nope;
special express train that leaves bangkok at 10:50 am and arrives in ayutthaya at 12:15 am

Irrelevant infromation. I wasn't talking about a taxi ride. I talked about the existing train service.
On Mondays to Fridays, from Hua Lamphong Train Station, 3rd class train (non-airconditioned) departs at 06.55 am. and arrives at Pattaya station at 10.34 am. before continuing to Sattahip. From Pattaya to Bangkok, the train arrives at Pattaya Station at 02.21 pm. and terminates in Bangkok at 06.25 pm. There is advanced booking available
http://www.pattaya.net/go/

The official schedule says it's a 4 hour train ride from Pattaya to Bangkok. The people who told me about their trips on that train said it routinely takes over 5 hours each way, regardles of what the schedule says. They did not lie.

Train kills man asleep on tracks in Takeo

Kong Meta, The Phnom Penh Post
Thu, 7 April 2016

A construction worker sleeping on train tracks was killed by a freight train on Sunday in Takeo province’s Samrong district.

Deputy district police chief Khun Yan said the 36-year-old victim was drunk at a wedding a few kilometres from the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville freight line that crossed his route home.

“He could not make his way home, so he slept along the way,” he said.

“When he got drunk he would never listen to anyone, he is wild,” said the ill-fated man’s village chief, Sor Sangva.

Khun Yan’s men were on patrol that night, and sighted the victim sleeping in the road. Telling him to move on lest a car hit him, he moved to a cucumber farm.

Thanks to all those careing and shareing posters that enquired into my health and welfare after my train trip.
Surprise, surprise , the train actually left on time at 7 am, and you could almost feel the geeeee,forces kick in as we moved off. After the struggle to find my seat , which were badly numbered, I ended up sitting with a old Khmer lady and her 3 grandchildren who had 2 tickets between them. But just like every other problem in Cambodia, it was not a probblem in the end.
Besides having no room for luggage on the train, no leg space, no rubbish bins, a door that was not self closing, in a aircon carrage , the trip was a laugh all the way. And why not, we had Charlie Chaplin nonstop on the video screen for the whole 8 hour trip. Luckly someone had the sence to have it on ''mute '' so we could not hear Charlie mimeing to his actions in the 1930's films. Coincidently , that was about the same time these railway carrages were built.

First stop at Takeo was at 9-10 am till 9-24 am ,, then Kampot , 11-37 am till 12-07,,, Snooky at 2- 50 pm ,,,,, where there were many, many people there to greet us, Mostly tuk-tuk drivers .

One good point about the train is there are electric power points located vby your feet to recharge you phone etc..

It was good to be able to see parts of the country [ and areas of PP ] that you would normally never see.
