Looking at Google maps, you can see the line runs through these towns:

Tuek Phos
Pursat
Moung Ruessei
Battambang
Serei Sophon
Poipet

I'm sure it will stop at Pursat, Battambang and Poipet... the others, who knows.

fuck, its going to be at least a 14 -16 hour trip, Hope they offer overnight trains with sleepers and a restaurant car>
but imagine there will be locals on board selling snacks and beer.

Will they stop at immigration and everyone needs de train to pass thru immigration?
or like Europe used to before, and an immigration official came on board.

Will be ok to do once, ( maybe) but doubt it will be much cheaper ( if cheaper at all) than flying on air asia where you can sometimes get a flight for under $40 and only 45 minute tuktuk from riverside to airport!! 90 arrival before departure , 1 hour flight>

I would guess that passengers will switch from a Cambodian train to a Thai one at Poipet. So it's likely the sleeper cars will be the Thai ones. Hopefully it will be scheduled to work that way.

As for being cheaper than flying... train travel is always about the journey itself. At least it is for me. Plus I'll get to check out Battambang and Poipet along the way.

I agree, i love train travel, Have done lots of them in Myanmar ( longest was 21 hours), Europe, Africa, ( Aswan to Khartoum) Syria, Pakistan and of course India
the longest part of the journey will be PP- Poi Pet
Poi pet to bangkok is only 5 hours 40 minutes by train ( 48 baht ONLY 3rd class for now) so no reason for a sleeper

Missing Battamabang and Po Pet is no great loss :-)
although if ur on a thru train wont see much of the cities

Would be a lovely little holiday if you could stop at each town and stay a night or two on-route.

That's what I would do. And I think quite a few backpackers might take the scenic route this way as well. And maybe one day from Bangkok all the way to Saigon...?

Highly unlikely to change...
Ive taken the train from the border to Bangkok a few times. Last time being 2 years ago and only 3rd class trains on that stretch. No sleeper, no air con. About 6-7 hours

Really? Oh well. I have caught sleeper trains in TH before but on the other side of the country. I read the TH govt is donating some trains to KH so hopefully they have sleeper cars.
