Tourist gets stolen bag back, pays up, complains...

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

i dont put myself into a position where i could be mugged

it sounds like he had his bag snatched he was not mugged
And how do you determine what those positions are? Or do you just never go into public places?
if u have not worked that out yet then u r fucked

Just because you've never been mugged doesn't mean you're never in a position where you could be mugged. Maybe even a 12 year old could grasp that concept!

Yeah Raybull, but don't you love it when he talks so masculine."
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

That's where the body of a 20yo comes in play.

yup i had a bike stolen from the beach because i forgot to lock it
didnt even file a report, not paying the coppers to give me it back
was my own fault, took it on the chin
I was chatting with a tuk tuk driver who I'd got to know pretty well in SR. He worked pretty much exclusively for one of the hotels and was a good egg and told me just what cunts the police could be. It goes beyond the paying for reports/paperwork and laying money on them for returning stuff.

From what he was saying they also ask that question any barang hears a lot: "How long you stay?" In their case, though, it's not because they want to tuk tuk you around for three days or do minimum boom boom for maximum dollars for the duration. They are asking so they know how long they need to keep the laptop/expensive camera/other valuable in the cupboard before the tourist fucks off home so they can sell it on/place it in a shop for sale. Fucking scumbags, what chance do a people have in a country that has police like that?

I've never been mugged. When I was really young, like 7 or 8 years old, a gypsy tried to put a smelly blanket over my head and bundle me off the street into a passageway that led to some steps and a river. I struggled and got away. That freaked me right out, since then I've tried to keep aware of what is going on around me. This type of feeling is probably what others have been alluding to in their posts. It's not something magical, just a heightened awareness and ability to judge situations from a distance and react quickly if necessary.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
